Local Orthodox church in Michigan will receive up to $50,000 in matching donation funds for earthquake relief efforts in Syria and Turkey
Livonia, MI—The Antiochian Orthodox Basilica of St. Mary in southeast Michigan sends an urgent appeal to its parishioners, and others in the region for donations to aid in the massive humanitarian relief needed for the devastation in Syria and Turkey that occurred because of the recent earthquake there, including the destruction of churches, mosques and homes. Many of St. Mary’s parishioners and their families come from cities affected by the earthquake, including Hama, Latakia, Tartous and Aleppo, in Syria and to the former Syrian region of Antioch, which now include the cities of Antkya, Iskenderun, Arsuz, and Mersin, in Turkey.
At this moment, we call upon you to respond to the needs of all suffering people. We are taught that when one suffers the whole body suffers.
This urgent appeal is for humanitarian relief, which will be distributed all over the region affected by this earthquake. We ask that you make your donations online, through our website, by clicking HERE or send to St. Mary’s church 18100 Merriman Rd. Livonia, MI 48152, earmarked for 2023 Earthquake Relief. The collected funds will be forwarded to His Beatitude, Patriarch John X. Your donation will go even further in the coming days as an anonymous donor has offered to match every dollar donated, up to $50,000. So please, donate today.
